Children & early treatment

Early orthodontic care for children

The right first visit at the right time can guide growth and simplify treatment later — and we only recommend treatment when it truly helps.

Early care

A gentle, honest first step

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic check-up by around age 7. Early (two-phase) treatment can guide jaw growth and make room for incoming teeth — though many children simply need monitoring, not braces yet.

Dr. Orbach will tell you honestly whether early treatment helps or whether watchful waiting is best. Your child's first visit is free.

How early care works

Timing that helps, not rushes

First visit by ~age 7

Early enough to spot issues that are easier to guide while your child is growing.

Two-phase, when it helps

Phase 1 guides growth and makes room; Phase 2 later aligns the full smile.

Watchful waiting

If braces aren't needed yet, we simply monitor — no treatment before it helps.

Children's orthodontics FAQ

Good to know

When should my child first see an orthodontist?
By around age 7, per the American Association of Orthodontists — even if treatment isn't needed yet, an early check-up establishes a baseline.
What is two-phase treatment?
An early Phase 1 (while a child is growing) guides jaw development and makes room for teeth; a later Phase 2 aligns the full smile once more permanent teeth are in.
Does my child need braces now?
Often not yet — many children just need monitoring. Dr. Orbach recommends treatment only when it will genuinely help.
Is the first visit really free?
Yes — your child's initial consult is free, with no referral needed.
